In the spring of 2020, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Clara Lars was a freshman in high school writing, recording and producing songs in her basement. As a songwriter, Clara Lars speaks of a genuine need to channel her thoughts and emotions. This is a process that happens organically on piano, which she’s been playing since childhood. The social isolation of the pandemic lockdown provided Clara with the time and the inspiration to reflect on her relationships and compose songs as a catharsis.
Clara, who writes all of her songs, released her debut EP, Illusions, in October of 2022. Illusions was a fine introduction for Lars, who co-produces many of her recordings with Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House, TV on the Radio, Future Islands, Grizzly Bear). “Beach House is one of my favorite bands, so Chris agreeing to work with me literally felt like a dream.”
Born in Brooklyn and raised there until she was 10, Clara is excited to be moving back to her native New York City in the fall of 2024. This year is also bringing “Nobody’s Tired” and “No Traces,” her first releases since her debut EP. They are, in every way, an indication that Clara Lars is just getting started.
